Referral fees are governed by the Professional Conduct section under Ohio law. When you refer a case to me, whether it is one you cannot handle because of time constraints or one you feel you should not handle due to a conflict of interest or particular area of focus, you can be assured that I will provide your client with top-quality representation and legal expertise. I know my colleagues often have long term, on going relationships with their clients, and I work to ensure that relationship is upheld.
This means that the referring attorney is jointly responsible for the case, even when not actually participating in trying the case.
